We recently got the opportunity to ask renowned author and lecturer, Dr John Demartini about his personal insights into a number of subjects; from how he clears his mind and stays relaxed to his views about Australia.

How do you stay inspired daily within your busy lifestyle of inspiring others?

By doing just that, inspiring others. To watch someone catch a glimpse of who they truly are and what is possible for their life is the greatest source of energy I have ever come across. Since the age of seventeen I have dreamt of doing what I am doing today and as a result I practise what I preach and count my blessings every day.

Many children and teenagers across the world are told everyday that they will not amount to anything because of a learning disability. What is one of the things that you would recommend they do?

Often in life our greatest challenges can become the source of strength and character we require to create the life we would love to live. In embracing this simple truth and taking the time to recognise how every person and event has served your life for the ultimate good, you can set yourself free from the limitations that you may have placed on yourself and others. Whether it is a child or an adult who was once a child, I would suggest taking the time to ask yourself how anything or anyone you perceive as challenging, has in fact served you and your life.

Does one have to suffer a traumatic event in order to wake up to what life has to offer?

While traumatic events can definitely serve as a wake up call when we are expecting it least, we do have the intrinsic ability to manifest the same degree of transformation in our life simply by making the decision to change. Taking small actions such as keeping a gratitude diary everyday, can have the same lasting and meaningful effect on your life and allow you to wake up to all that is and the potential to have all that will be.

What is it about your teachings that have made you so successful, compared to the many others in the personal and professional development industry?

Every individual wants to be loved for who they are, no more no less. When you give someone the gift of self love or at least show them how to find that within themselves, they naturally want the people they love around them to experience that also, and from there the message spreads. I have been blessed to have students who support and spread my work around the world and it has grown organically from that.

What is one of the most empowering sentences or quotes that you have heard from someone else?

Know yourself, be yourself, love yourself.

What techniques do you use to clear your mind and relax?

I have developed the Demartini Method and I use that in my own life regularly. It is a series of questions and answers designed to equilibrate the mind and bring balance to the heart and soul. Much of it is based on quantum physics and I outline the method itself in my recent books- ‘The Riches Within’ and ‘The Heart of Love’.

You seem to have an affiliation with Australia and have had much success here. What do you think of Australia?

My late wife was Australian so I was blessed to have the opportunity to live in Australia part-time. Over the years I have developed a great network of students and teachers of the Demartini Method, so I certainly feel this is a success I wanted to achieve. I still have homes in Australia and when given the chance I love spending time there.

Tell us about your upcoming book and film ‘The Opus’.

I have recently launched ‘The Gratitude Effect’. It is a book I have wanted to release for quite some time now and a topic I always come back to whether I am speaking about relationships, money and/or business. The book sheds light on the ways in which gratitude can transform all areas of life.

The Opus is another project I was blessed to be involved in with my friends and colleagues Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Marci Smirnoff and Morris Goodman. The movie is directed and produced by Douglas Vemereen and is a story of a young man who pursues his dream in the face of impossible challenges and succeeds – the young man is Vincenzo Vivaldi. Drawing upon Vivaldi’s story, myself and the other teachers have the opportunity to illustrate the lessons we can all apply to our own life.

I am inspired to be a part of the movie and believe it will transform if not simply awaken millions of people around the world.

Which one of your books is your personal favourite?

They all have something different to offer. The Breakthrough Experience was however the first book I was able to present the Demartini Method through so in that sense it is a book I will always cherish.

With the pressures of world economies in decline, water shortages and wars, how can people rise above and stay positive in life?

Focus on and look for the opportunities that come out of the so-called decline and I urge that you do not stop until you discover them for yourself. Everything that happens to us in life serves a purpose, including those things that occur on a national, international and even universal scale. The other important thing to note is there will always be ‘something’ happening, it is up to you to decide how it will affect you. It has nothing to do with staying positive; it has everything to do with being grateful for the magnificent order that exists amidst the apparent chaos.
