At times the last seven years has seemed like a blur, as so much has happened and life has been moving pretty fast each day. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, having surgery and treatment, it was time to step aside to figure out why I am here on this earth. It was time to de-clutter the mind and the body, and digging around finding excess stored trash has been quite an exhilarating experience. |

Often we have no idea that something we do or say will affect the life of another person dramatically. Sometimes the outcome of our actions and gestures can seem like a miracle to others.

‘Make your way to Baghdad. Join a mass migration of foreigners to stop the war in Iraq.’
It felt like my heart stopped for a few seconds when I heard that call to action on the radio. People have assumed that I suffered many sleepless nights before deciding to go to Iraq as a human shield, but really, all it took was one moment. One sacred and defining moment – it is what I had been waiting for. The context of that moment was summertime in Sydney, January 2003.

Sugar is a silent killer and affects so many aspects of your health. You may be saying, ‘Yes, I already know sugar is not good for me but I cannot help it! I just have to eat it’. This is because sugar is incredibly addictive. The more you eat it, the more you want to eat it and the never-ending cycle goes on. There are a few good reasons why intense sugar cravings happen: nutrient deficiencies (particularly chromium, magnesium and zinc), unbalanced meals (i.e. not including enough fats and proteins), skipping meals, irregular eating times, consuming sugars and sweet foods daily (habit).

I believe an important distinction in decision-making is to know the choice we have is always between ‘will’ and ‘will not,’ not between ‘can’ and ‘cannot’.

To recap, or if you missed last month’s column, recent studies found that during our daily beauty regime we expose ourselves to over 500 chemicals on average by simply using shampoo, conditioner, various cleansers, toners, moisturisers and perfume or aftershave. Ladies, you can add to that an array of make-up products…and that is all before the day really starts. Women apply up to 13 products each day, most of these containing at leat 20 ingredients. Some of these chemicals can lead to allergies, hormone problems, fertility issues and various illnesses, including cancer.

In my line of work it is common to have people tell me they are stuck, lost, confused, conflicted or afraid. There is something not quite right about their lives. Maybe their relationship is faltering, maybe their work sucks or they are trying to find their role and purpose in life. Perhaps enlightenment seems farther away than when they started hunting for it. Most feel oppressed with insufficient meaning, erratic motivation and some degree of dissatisfaction or sadness.
