Amy Winehouse: Never Forgotten

Amy Winehouse’s tremendous soulful vocal talent and song writing ability established her as one of the most innovative artists of our time. She used the sound of her idols, Etta James and Billie Holiday, to reinvent jazz and blues for a new generation in her album Back To Black. Her most popular songs featured in this documentary, Rehab and You Know I’m No Good, contain lyrical content that mirrored the turmoil of Winehouse’s personal life, including the stormy break-up of her marriage, her struggles with addiction and her untimely death. This is the story of how in just 27 short years she managed to influence the music community, fashion world and a legion of fans that understood her best through her musical genius.

Dear Aura

I am absolutely at a loss to understand why I suddenly developed a paralysing fear of flying about five years ago. Plane travel is something I can’t avoid as I live in Western Australia and my son’s father lives in Tasmania and he travels there once a year. Would love some guidance in how to overcome this fear?

Afraid, WA

Dear Afraid,

For some people the fear of flying is obviously related to being afraid of dying in a crash, but in my experience, it’s often about being ‘out of control’ - for those hours in the air someone else is in control of your life and that can be unbearable. Whatever it is, it’s important that you try to name exactly what the issue is. I believe that life is like a school and that when we reincarnate we bring in with us unresolved lessons from previous lives. The soul, in its wisdom, may have believed that you weren’t ready to tackle this specific issue until you had gained a level of experience and maturity five years ago, so did not bring it to light until then. Trust your soul and know that you are able to handle this. It will help if you can look at this from the viewpoint of an interesting experiment. Step outside and look back at yourself (sitting on the plane experiencing the fear) with interest and curiosity.

There is an energy system related to this fear that is trapped in your body and as with any feeling of fear, it’s important not to push it away, but to allow it to be there as much as you are able. The Sedona Method (www.sedona.com) has a particular process that may help shift this energy. It initially asks you to let go of wanting to change the fact that you’re afraid. Ask yourself, ‘can I let go of wanting the situation to be different?’ Now make a conscious choice and just drop that ‘want’. This will assist to release trapped energy within you. Also, if you think it’s related to being in control can you, just for a moment, let go of wanting to be ‘in control’. Again, just decide to let go of control for a moment. This will cause a break in the energy system related to the fear and what is underneath the fear, and in that moment, a new perspective and a new platform has an opportunity to appear which will help you on your way to resolve this issue.

Blessings
